A. John DiMiceli Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: To be eligible, a student must have a parent who is a current member of the Newburgh Teachers' Association (NTA) and who has been a member of the NTA for the entirety of their career in the NECSD.

Description: The John DiMiceli Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $2,500, is given by the NTA to a senior who has demonstrated excellence, leadership, and academic ability while attending Newburgh Free Academy.

Andrew Mosca Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Given to two graduating seniors who have shown remarkable proficiency in social sciences with plans to continue his or her education. Mr. Mosca was a Social Studies Teacher at NFA/He taught for over 30 years in the district.

Description: The Andrew Mosca Memorial Scholarships, in the amount of $500 each, are given to two graduating seniors who have shown remarkable proficiency in social sciences with plans to continue his or her education. Mr. Mosca was a Social Studies Teacher at NFA.

Archie Stewart Rotary Scholarship

Criteria: The Archie Stewart Newburgh Rotary Club Award is based on participation in school and community activities and is awarded to an NFA senior pursuing additional education.

Description: The Archie Stewart Newburgh Rotary Club Award of $4,000 is given to two students this year, selected by the Newburgh Rotary Club. The award is based on participation in school and community activities and is awarded to an NFA senior pursuing additional education.

Carly Fund Scholarships

Criteria: The Carly Fund Scholarships are awarded to an outstanding boy and girl who have significant volunteer experience, who work well with adults, and who have maintained an overall GPA of 90 percent or higher. These students must have participated on two varsity sport teams at NFA or have participated in at least one varsity sport and one additional athletic activity inside or outside of school.

Description: The Carly Fund Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each are awarded to an outstanding boy and girl who have significant volunteer experience, who work well with adults, and who have maintained an overall GPA of 90 percent or higher. Christine and William Hotaling Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Given to 3 seniors who are planning to attend four-year colleges or universities, have good scholastic records, and have overcome major obstacles in their lives. Community involvement through volunteer activities is also considered.

Description: The Christine and William Hotaling Memorial Scholarship consists of three awards in the amounts of $2,000, $2,000 and $1,000 to graduating seniors each of whom plans to attend a four-year college or university, has a good scholastic record, and has overcome a significant obstacle in his or her life.

Circolo Cattolico Italiano

Criteria: Given to a senior of Italian background who has maintained a good academic standing and demonstrates financial need. Preference will be given to a student studying the Italian language in high school.

Description: The Circolo Cattolico Italiano Scholarship, in the amount of $500, is awarded to a senior with an Italian background who has maintained a good academic standing throughout high school.

Cronomer Valley Fire Dept Ladies Auxiliary Mary Hoyt Community Service Award

Criteria: Student must be a resident of the Cronomer Valley Fire District and have given back to their community through volunteer service.

Description: The Cronomer Valley Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary Mary Hoyt Memorial Service Award, in the amount of $300, is presented by a resident of the Cronomer Valley Fire District.

CSEA Local 836 Unit #7910

Criteria: Given to children of CSEA Employees of the NECSD who will be continuing their education.

Description: The CSEA Unit #7910 is awarding two scholarships in the amount of $500 to a child of a CSEA employee of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District who will continue their education.

David S. MacFarland Scholarship

Criteria: This scholarship is intended for a student pursuing full-time study at Orange County Community College (SUNY Orange) toward a business, finance, or accounting degree. The student should have shown involvement in community service or a student who has overcome a significant obstacle.

Description: This scholarship is given to a student who has contributed to our community.

Dual Language Scholarship Award

Criteria: "Great knowledge and passion for learning the Spanish language. Overall positive attitude towards bilingualism and its benefits. Enthusiasm when speaking Spanish. Grade-level proficiency in reading, writing, listening and speaking Spanish in an effort to achieve biliteracy. Initiates learning by seeking opportunities to learn more about the Spanish language and culture beyond the expectation within the classroom. Practicing speaking Spanish at home."

Description: This award is designed to set a standard and reward engagement in pursuit of language skills in two or more languages, affirm positive attitudes toward multilingualism, and validate the use of multiple languages for all students

Friends of Newburgh Crew Scholarship

Criteria: The applicant must be a senior who has been on the team for at least 1 season and who has participated in at least 1 NFA Crew/FONC community outreach event.

Description: The Friends of Newburgh Crew, Inc (FONC) supports the sport of rowing for the students of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District. We believe in teamwork, confidence and leadership gained through working together and giving back to our community.

Criteria: All Gardnertown Alumni

Goldback Scholarship: Upward, Together and BEYOND Award

Criteria: 1st generation college student and pursing a degree in Education.

Description: The scholarship is given by the Newburgh Enlarged City School District Executive Team which consists of the Superintendent of Schools, Deputy Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents and Executive Directors.

Goldbacks Youth Football & Cheer Scholarship

Criteria: "Seeking graduating seniors who have participated as a football player or cheerleader for multiple years in our youth program and have participated in football and cheer throughout high school. · Applicants must have a plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college or trade school. · Scholarship funds will be paid to the student and must be used for college related expenses. · Students will be required to provide receipts of items purchased. · Application should be completed online with a deadline of Friday April 26, by 8:00 p.m. · Late applications will not be accepted."

Description: "Our tackle football and cheer program is open to kids 5-13 years of age. We offer a fun and safe environment for you child to learn the sport. Our coaches volunteer their time to teach our kids how to be good athletes and most importantly good teammates. Our goal is for your child to enjoy the sport and being a part of a team while having fun and competing at the same time. Our organization is offering these scholarships to assist those that have come through our program and continued playing their sport throughout their high school career. We want to be able to help them as they continue their path to college and or trade school."

Criteria: Awarded to a student majoring in science with a GPA greater than an 85.

Madeline Scalzo Perseverance Award

Description: The award, in memory of Mr. Scalzo's widowed mother, commemorates her struggles to survive in Newburgh and keep her family together.

Mariano and Marie Muyot Scholarship

Criteria: Enrollment into a community college in New York State; GPA of at least 2.75; recommendation of a teacher or guidance counselor.

Description: This scholarship was established in the memory of our parents and grandparents. Mariano T. Muyot and Marie McCaffrey Muyot who have both passed away. Mariano was born the in the phillipeans, and left college to serve in the US NAVY for 7 years, including service in the Vietnam War. He went to work for IBM. He finished his college education at Dutchess Community College, retired from IBM and led a very happy and successful life with his wife Marie, children and grandchildren. He could not have achieved this lifestyle without the assistant of Dutchess County Community College. Marie Muyot was born in Beacon NY and was a life long educator and volunteer. She had both a bachelors and masters degree in Spanish. She taught Spanish in Elementary and High School. She taught for 30 years. After retiring she continued to tutor kids in the community for free especially for students in English as a second language.

Matthew D. Marino Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Given to a senior who has participated in a varsity sport and who has studied at least two years of Visual Arts. The student must be attending a two-year/four-year, or technical college. The award is based upon recommendation of the student's coach, counselor and visual arts teacher.

Meadow Hill PTO Award

Description: This scholarship will be awarded to two seniors who graduated from Meadow Hill School (1 male and 1 female)

Criteria: Criteria: 1. NFA Class of "64 Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: This scholarship is given to a senior who has overcome some obstacles or hardships and plans to attend college in the fall.

Description: A deserving senior in memory of the deceased member of the NFA Class of 1964.

NFA Class of 1982

Description: This scholarship was created by friends of the NFA Class of 1982. Where solid friendships were built through the years at NFA and remained friends no matter what path they followed after graduation, making them a Forever Goldback. This award is given to a student who show their "Goldback Pride" in their everyday life. The recipient is one that will pursue his/her education at a certified technical institution or other institute of Higher Education who has committed to community service, school involvement and athletic activities.

Peter and Demetra 'The Greats' Matthews Scholarship

Description: The Peter the Great Matthews Scholarship was created to celebrate and honor Peter?s memory. We are pleased to offer two scholarship to a Newburgh Free Academy senior in the amount of $1,000 each. Peter Paul Matthews (1933-2018) was an immigrant from Skoura, Sparta, Greece. He came to the United States in 1951 to pursue a better future for his family. To his children and grandchildren, he always emphasized education and athletic competition because his ancestors believed in a healthy body and mind.

PLZ Scholarship Trust

Ralph Petrillo Sr. Scholarship

Criteria: GPA/class rank in upper 10%, accepted to a top 100 university/college with Ivy League school preference, Varsity letters earned-list all sports and the number of years played.

Description: The Ralph Petrillo Sr. Scholarship is given in memory of Ralph Petrillo Sr. Mr. Petrillo was an outstanding athlete at NFA and went on to become a 3 letter sportsman at Harvard University. He lettered in football, basketball and baseball. Mr. Petrillo taught Mathematics at NFA and coached football and baseball until he became an Asst. Principal. His ability to connect with students was exemplary. The scholarship is given yearly to an individual (or 2) that best represents the high qualities of leadership, athleticism and academic success both on and off the field.

Ray Tweed Memorial Scholarship/TON PBA

Criteria: Given to a deserving senior entering college, who has demonstrated community service, & participated in high school activities

Description: Ray Tweed Memorial Scholarship is given by the Town of Newburgh's Policemen's Association in memory of Dispatcher Ray Tweed who, at the age of seventeen, was stricken with polio but overcame his disability to serve the residents of the Town of Newburgh from his wheelchair for over twenty-four years.

Winona Lake Engine Company #2, Incorporated

Criteria: Given to an NFA senior, who has maintained an 80 GPA or better. An NFA senior, that has participated in school activities. An NFA senior who has performed considerable community service. Student must have plans to attend college in the fall. Student must reside within the Orange Lake Fire District.

Description: The Winona Lake Fire Engine Company No. 2 Inc is a 100% Volunteer Fire Engine Company. Our Dedicated and trained 1st responders, provide Fire protection and Emergency services to commercial and residential property users. We respond to Motor Vehicle Accidents on all the roadways that pass through our fire district. We are proud to serve our community, friends and neighbors. When they need help the most we will be there.
