Alfred & Annunciata Prokosch Scholar Athlete Award

Criteria: Given to a senior who will be attending college next year. Awarded on the basis of scholarship and school, community, and athletic activities. Emphasis is placed on the candidates involvement in high school sports.

Ana Hilda Ramon Scholarship

Criteria: The Ana Hilda Ramon Scholarship will be given to a student involved in the Latino community and shows leadership. Ana Hilda Ramon was the Co-Founder of the organization, Latino Unidos.

Description: ORGANIZATION "LATINOS UNIDOS" NAME OF AWARD "ANA HILDA RAMON" who was the Co-Founder of Latino Unidos.

Andrew Mosca Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Given to two graduating seniors who have shown remarkable proficiency in social sciences with plans to continue his or her education. Mr. Mosca was a Social Studies Teacher at NFA. He taught for over 30 years.

Andrews Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: This scholarship is open to an NFA Senior planning on pursuing a degree in Nursing BSN. Student must have a minimum GPA of 85.

Anne F. Bourne Endowment Scholarship

Criteria: Given to an outstanding senior on the basis of scholarship, school activities and community service.

Carly Fund Scholarships

Criteria: The Carly Fund Scholarships are awarded to an outstanding boy and girl who have significant volunteer experience, who work well with adults, and who have maintained an overall GPA of 90 percent or higher. These students must have participated on two varsity sport teams at NFA or have participated in at least one varsity sport and one additional athletic activity inside or outside of school.

Carol Drejza Memorial GAMS Scholarship

Criteria: This scholarship is given to a graduating senior who attended GAMS with preference given to a student planning to pursue a career in education. (Alumni status of GAMS will be verified)

Description: This scholarship is given each year in memory of Carol Drejza, a beloved second grade teacher at GAMS. She was passionate about teaching and made it her mission to teach every student to read. Her favorite children's book was Charlotte's Web by E.B. White.

Christine and William Hotaling Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Given to a senior who is planning to attend a four-year college or university who has overcome major obstacles in his/her life.

Specific Essay:A 250-word essay concerning an obstacle which you have met and overcome in your life thus far.

Circolo Cattolico Italiano

Criteria: Given to a senior of Italian background who has maintained a good academic standing and demonstrates financial need. Preference will be given to a student studying the Italian language in high school.

Cronomer Valley Fire Dept Ladies Auxiliary Mary Hoyt Community Service Award

Criteria: Student must be a resident of the Cronomer Valley Fire District and have given back to their community through volunteer service.

Specific Essay:Write a one page essay about your community service activity including the organization and the amount of time given. Please highlight why you think it is important to give back.

CSEA Local 836 Unit 7910

Criteria: Given to children of CSEA Employees of the NECSD who will be continuing their education.

Dale Prokosch Solar Car

Description: The Dale Prokosch SolarCar/Concept Vehicle Awards are given to two graduating seniors who have been active members of the NFA Solar/ Concept Vehicle Racing team for at least two years and who will be attending an accredited trade school or college and are planning to receive a certificate or degree in physics, engineering or a technical field.

Dr. Angelo Casabianca Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Student who is pursuing a career in Science or Medicine

Description: Dr. Angelo Casabianca was a native of the Hudson Valley. After completing his medical training in NYC, he returned to the Hudson Valley where he lived out his passion for helping others daily. He was a lover of life and had a passion for knowledge. Dr. Casabianca fought a courageous battle with a rare tumor for nine years. Sadly, he lost his battle in 2009. The Lap4life Foundation has been honoring his memory through their annual event, raising money for desmoid tumors and organ donation. This year, the Lap4life Foundation will choose a deserving senior to receive a scholarship in Dr. Angelo Casabianca's memory who will be pursuing careers in science or medicine.

Duane VanZandt Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: This student should be one who has maintained at least an 80 overall GPA and has undertaken coursework related to automobile repair or welding. The student will be planning on pursuing a course of higher education in a related field at a qualified college or technical school of his/her choosing. Please note: The funds will be available for one year after the award is announced. If the student does not enroll in a course of secondary education by that time, the funds will be considered to be forfeit.

Description: Duane VanZandt was a 1991 graduate of NFA and an accomplished auto mechanic who specialized in commercial vehicle repair. He was also an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He had a larger than life personality and could make anyone laugh, even at their own expense. Even larger than his personality was his heart. If you were lucky enough to know him, you knew you could call him your friend for life.

Eddineth Monroy Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: The scholarship is open to a Latina student who has maintained above a 90 GPA. This student must also have extra curricular activities that may include sports and school/community involvement. In addition, the recipient must also have part time employment.

Eric Gomez Meadow Hill Award

Criteria: This scholarship will be awarded to two seniors who graduated from Meadow Hill School.

Specific Essay:1 page essay about your favorite memory or experience at Meadow Hill and also include a piece of advice to our graduating 8th graders.

Ernest McDonald Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Student must be of African American descent and must demonstrate financial need. Priority consideration will be given to a student who will enroll in a post secondary vocational program.

Description: The Ernest McDonald Memorial Scholarship is awarded to two NFA seniors. Mr. McDonald was born in Newburgh and educated in Newburgh Public Schools. He was affectionatly known as Mr. Mac, and was employed by the Newburgh Enlarged City School District as a teacher for over 38 years. He was an advocate for educating the youth of Newburgh. Students must demonstrate financial need and must be of African American descent. Two letters of recommendations are required. Priority consideration will be given to a student who will enroll in a post secondary vocational program.

Friends of Newburgh Crew Scholarship

Criteria: The applicant must be a senior who has been on the team for at least 1 season and who has participated in at least 1 NFA Crew/FONC community outreach event.

Description: The Friends of Newburgh Crew, Inc (FONC) supports the sport of rowing for the students of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District. We believe in teamwork, confidence and leadership gained through working together and giving back to our community.

Friends of the Library Regina Angelo Scholarship Award

Criteria: Given to a deserving senior with strong community service. This scholarship is for students planning to major in Art, Library Science, Government or Political Science.

Gerald Thorne United Commercial Travelers Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Given to two graduating seniors on the basis of scholarship and school activities. These students must be attending college in the fall.

Geraldine Warner Foundation Scholarship (DO NOT APPLY, SEPARATE APPLICATION)

Criteria: Given to an outstanding senior who has maintained a 92 + average for 3 years, who will attend an accredited four-Year University, and has given verifiable proof of financial need. Separate application must be submitted.

Graham Burmeister Scholarship

Criteria: Given to a graduating senior who plans to major in commercial/graphic arts.

John M. Suydam Memorial Science Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to a student majoring in science with a GPA greater than an 85.

John V. Lahey New Windsor School Scholarship

Criteria: Given to two students who graduated from the New Windsor school and who plan to further their education.

Joseph Galizia Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Given to a graduating college-bound senior planning to major in the field of education, health services, or has plans to enter into the military. This student must have exhibited a strong sense of volunteerism during his/her time at Newburgh Free Academy. This student must have attended GAMS.

Judson P. Galloway - Hattie & Elwin Wayman Scholarship

Criteria: Given to a graduating senior who will be attending a two year or four year college or trade school. The senior must be in good academic standing and have the desire to achieve. This scholarship is only offered to a member of the Junior Air Force ROTC program at Newburgh Free Academy.

Lieutenant Paul Vervlied Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: All applicants must live with in the Cronomer Valley Fire District. High consideration to applicants who are members of the Fire Department or emergency services. Must do Community service on a regular bases and maintain a passing grade in all subjects.

Lima STEM Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to a Latino Female who is continuing her studies in a STEM field and has community service work.

Louis J. Aulogia Scholarship

Criteria: This student must be attending a two or four year college or technical school.

Description: Given to a graduating senior who demonstrates dedication, leadership and civic-mindedness through the instrumental program at Newburgh Free Academy.

Mariano and Marie Muyot Scholarship

Criteria: Enrollment into a community college in New York State; GPA of at least 2.75; recommendation of a teacher or guidance counselor.

Description: We established this scholarship in the memory of our parents and grandparents. Mariano T. Muyot and Marie McCaffrey Muyot who have both passed away. Mariano was born the in the Philippines, and left college to serve in the US NAVY for 7 years, including service in the Vietnam War. He went to work for IBM. He finished his college education at Dutchess Community College, retired from IBM and led a very happy and successful life with his wife Marie, children and grandchildren. He could not have achieved this lifestyle without the assistant of Dutchess County Community College. Marie Muyot was born in Beacon NY and was a life long educator and volunteer. She had both a bachelors and masters degree in Spanish. She taught Spanish in Elementary and High School. She taught for 30 years. After retiring she continued to tutor kids in the community for free especially for students in English as a second language. In paticular an "enamorada" with the Spanish language and the cultures in which Spanish was spoken. While not mandatory, it would be fitting if the student utilizing the scholarship showed an interest in studying the Spanish Language in the future. In establishing this scholarship we hope to pass on the stories of our parents/grandparents to honor their memory.

Matthew D. Marino Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Given to a senior who has participated in a varsity sport and who has studied at least two years of Visual Arts. The student must be attending a two-year/four-year, or technical college. The award is based upon recommendation of the student's coach, counselor and visual arts teacher.

Mediacom Entrepreneur of Tomorrow Award

Criteria: 1. Entrepreneurial spirit as evidenced by the following qualities: a. part-time employment during high school; b. involvement in community/school oriented clubs or organizations;c. demonstration of leadership skills; d. perseverance in the face of adversity. 2. Academic success (minimum grade point average > 85).

Description: The Mediacom Entrepreneur of Tomorrow Award is presented to one graduating senior from each high school in Orange County. The award is intended to honor academically successful high school students who exemplify the same entrepreneurial spirit as Mediacom’s Founder, Rocco B. Commisso. Recipients will be invited to Mediacom’s corporate headquarters in Blooming Grove for a reception and award ceremony. Criteria: Awarded to a female graduating senior who has overcome a hardship and who will be entering the field of business/finance.

Mohsin Naqvi Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Given to a graduating senior who must have excelled in Global Studies. Must maintain an overall GPA of 3.8 or higher, have done a significant amount of community service and must be attending college in the fall.

Nancy S. Smith Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to a female senior who plans to continue her education in a healthcare field.

NFA Class of 1964

Criteria: This scholarship is given to a senior who has overcome some obstacles or hardships and plans to attend college in the fall.

Description: A deserving senior. In memory of the deceased members of the Class of 1964.

NFA Class of 1982

Criteria: Award is given to a student who shows their "Goldback Pride" in their everyday life. The recipient is one that will be going on to pursue his/her education at a certified technical institution or other institute of Higher Education.

Description: This scholarship was created by friends of the NFA Class of 1982. Where solid friendships were built through the years at NFA and remained friends no matter what path they followed after graduation. The bond shared is directly related to their High School experiences and those shared beyond Academy Field, making them a Forever Goldback.

NSAA Scholarship

Criteria: Given to a deserving graduating senior who has shown a leadership role within their school and/or community. This student must have collaborated not only with administrators, but also with teachers and fellow classmates on a specific project, event or activity. The student will be pursuing higher education.

NTA/ Teaching Assistant Scholarship

Criteria: Given to (1) graduating Special Education Senior and (1) Regular Education Senior. Preference is given to children of TA members. Student must be accepted into college and must have extracurricular activities and volunteer experience.

Peter “The Great” Matthews Scholarship

Criteria: Applicants must have participated in at least one Varsity Sport and be a senior attending Newburgh Free Academy.

Description: The Peter “The Great” Matthews Scholarship was created to celebrate and honor Peter’s memory. We are pleased to offer one scholarship to a Newburgh Free Academy senior. Peter Paul Matthews (1933-2018) was an immigrant from Skoura, Sparta, Greece. He came to the United States in 1951 to pursue a better future for his family. To his children and grandchildren, he always emphasized education and athletic competition because his ancestors believed in a healthy body and mind.

PLZ Scholarship Trust

Criteria: The PLZ Trust is awarding two scholarships who show exceptional need, aptitude and desire to pursue post graduation or vocational education. Someone who demonstrates community service.

Ray Tweed Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Given to a deserving senior entering college, who has demonstrated community service, participated in high school activities and resides in the Town of Newburgh. (Residency will be verified)

Rising Senior Healthcare Scholarship

Criteria: Given to a graduating senior who will pursue their education in the field of healthcare.

Robert Benjamin Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Given to a deserving senior who has completed four years of math in grades 9 through 12 and has demonstrated both school and community service. Expected Family Contribution (EFC) page should be submitted to School Counselor.

Ronald F Shapiro Fellowship Award

Criteria: The Ronald F. Shapiro Fellowship Award, is given to a graduating senior who will be attending college, has demonstrated leadership, scholarship, and fellowship, and who best exemplifies the qualities of the late Ronald F. Shapiro.

Ronald F Shapiro Memorial Art and Education Scholarship

Criteria: This scholarship is awarded to a student with an 85 minimum average, who plans to enroll in college and majoring in the arts or education.

S1 Chuck Rogers Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: The student receiving the scholarship must have maintained at least an 80 percent grade point average, will be attending a two-year or four-year college, and will major in criminal justice.

Description: The S1 Chuck Rogers Memorial Scholarship is awarded in honor of Sgt. Rogers and all police officers who devote themselves to protecting the public and the nation. Sgt. Rogers was a 16-year member of the City of Newburgh Police Force.

Scholar Goldback: ShoulderUP

Criteria: A student who is interested in pursuing a profession with a focus on leadership.

Description: The Scholar Goldback: Shoulder UP Award is given to a graduating senior who plans to attend college and/or enter the workforce with a focus on pursuing a career that exemplifies strong leadership.
Specific Essay:Must answer one of the following prompts: 1. You just hit your one millionth hit on Youtube, Twitter, SnapChat, Instagram, or Facebook. What was your post about? 2. You were just invited to speak at the White House/State Capital. Write your speech. 3. It's been said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly's wing can cause a typhoon halfway around the world. History is filled with such linchpin, small events or decisions that have huge effects on the future. Make your own change somewhere in history and show us the effects on the world. 4. In what ways have you embodied this year's mantra to make your school and/or community ONE? 5. Tell us a time when you have overcome adversity.

Sean McGuire Humanitarian Scholarship

Criteria: Given to a graduating senior who attended Vails Gate School.

Description: Senior must exhibit kindness, cooperation, obedience and a positive attitude towards his/her teachers and classmates.

SMA Foundation Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Given to a graduating senior who has striven to obtain an education and who has a commitment to giving back to the community that helped raise them.

Specific Essay:How do you believe the knowledge of other cultures you gained from Global Studies will influence the impact you would like to have on the world?

South Middle School Alumni Award

Criteria: South Middle School Alumni. Must have maintained a 80 or higher throughout their South Middle School career. They must have been involved in after-school activities (Clubs, Sports, Team, Community Service, etc).

Temple Hill Academy Academic Achievement Scholarship

Criteria: Given to a deserving senior, who has plans to further their education either through college, training, certification, or licensing.

Description: Student must be a graduate of Temple Hill Academy and have attended Temple Hill Academy since kindergarten.
Specific Essay:300-500 words describing why "Education is Key to a Successful future."

UNICO of Newburgh Joseph and Cosmie Saffioti Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Any high school senior embarking on a four year program of study at and accredited college or university. Applicant of Italian Heritage are preferred, but this is only one of the criteria used to evaluate applicants for this scholarship.

Description: We are a local chapter of a National Italian-American service organization. Beyond our motto of "Service Above Self", we strive to illuminate the many positive contributions of Italian descendants in America. We seek to identify deserving students with the greatest potential to link personal achievement with the Italian heritage.
Specific Essay:We kindly request that you submit a typed essay for the evaluation committee. Please do not identify yourself by name in the essay. We wish to know about you and the future you see for yourself. We are particularly concerned about your potential for achievement and how that can be related to our stated goal, i.e. to illuminate the positive contributions of Italians in America.
