For the last several years, NECSD has recognized Pink Day to honor those who have lost their battle with cancer. The first “Pink” Day was established in 2009 by faculty and staff at Heritage Middle School in support of a colleague who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. During her fight the staff and faculty would all wear pink.

We have continued the concept of "Pink" Day each year since, growing the day to a district level in 2015 to recognize all faculty, staff, and students who are currently battling, are in remission, or have lost their battle to cancer.

This year, "Pink" Day is scheduled for Friday, October 2, 2026. The "Pink" Day store can be found by clicking this link proceeds go to the Johnny Sileno Wishes for Wellness Foundation. 

We ask that our NECSD community wear pink or any color that represents any form of cancer as a tribute to fighting cancer. Photos can be shared with Communications@necsd.net. 

We ask everyone who plans to attend the NFA Varsity Football game on Friday, October 2nd to also wear their Cancer Colors in support of a loved one.

NECSD faculty and staff, PTO/A/Gs, and student organizations who want to walk on the track before the game and participate in the pre-game ceremony should contact Mrs. Jonelle Santo (jsanto@necsd.net) to reserve your spot. Mrs. Jonelle Santo has played a central role in coordinating the district's annual Pink Day initiatives, serving as a primary point of contact for school and community participation. Her dedication helps honor individuals affected by all forms of cancer while organizing meaningful events, including the pre-game ceremony at the varsity football game.

Each year, the event recognizes members of our Goldback family who have lost their battle with any form of cancer. We dedicate this day to the fighters, survivors, & those who lost their battles to Breast, Prostate, Skin, Lung, Kidney, Blood, Bladder, Pancreatic, Childhood, Colon, Ovarian, and ALL other Cancers.
