NECSD Board Seeks Volunteers for Vacancy
August 21, 2026
Dear NECSD students, families, faculty, and staff,
Board of Education Trustee member Thomasina Bello submitted her notice of voluntary resignation from the NECSD’s Board of Education on August 18, 2026. This information was shared with our community at last night’s regular Board of Education meeting.
On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Ms. Thomasina Bello for the time she volunteered her time to serve on the district’s Board of Education.
In consultation with the district’s legal counsel, I shared options that our Board members have to proceed at last night’s meeting and welcomed feedback from our board membership.
This information is reviewed under Education Law Section 2502, Subdivision 6.
- For many districts, the Board of Education doesn’t have to take any action, although should there be a tie in votes, an odd number of members is needed.
- The Board can conduct a special election at a cost to the district
- The Board can review previous election results for the candidate with the next highest votes
- The Board can appoint a replacement. Should more than one person volunteer, the Board should post the vacancy, seek qualified candidates, and hold public interviews
Emails must be received by the close of business on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Public interviews of interested candidates will be held at the next Public Board of Education meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
The Board will then determine to appoint a new member or to leave the position vacant.
If a person is appointed by the Board of Education, they will serve until the next election, which will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2027.
All interested volunteers should email the District Clerk, Mr. Matthew McCoy, at mmccoy@necsd.net.
