Heritage Middle School Facilitates Mental Health Awareness Week
Heritage Middle School’s Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Team recently facilitated a weeklong Mental Health Awareness Week in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month. Throughout the week, students and staff participated in activities designed to promote wellness, reduce stigma surrounding mental health, and encourage positive coping strategies.
Each morning, students listened to Mental Health Awareness-themed announcements featuring messages about self-care, kindness, resilience, and available supports within the school community. PPS offices also hosted a “Coping Skills Exit Ticket” activity throughout the week, giving students an opportunity to reflect on healthy ways to manage stress and emotions.
To help spread awareness and encourage schoolwide participation, members of the PPS team distributed green mental health awareness stickers throughout the day. During lunches, students enjoyed mental health-themed arts and crafts and sticker stations where they were able to creatively express themselves while learning about emotional wellness.
Wear Green Day took place on Thursday, where students and staff wore green in support of Mental Health Awareness. Students who participated were entered into raffles for gift cards, helping to further encourage engagement and school spirit.
The week concluded with a grand finale on Friday, featuring mental health-themed activities during each lunch period. Students and staff enjoyed dancing to music together, creating a fun, positive, and supportive atmosphere while celebrating mental health awareness as a school community.
The PPS Team was proud to provide students with opportunities to learn about mental health, practice coping skills, and foster a supportive and connected school environment.
