Elementary Selection Information for Children Entering Kindergarten

(A child is eligible to enter kindergarten next school year (September 2026) if they have a birthdate between 12/2/2020-12/1/2021 for the 2024-2025 school year.)
Hello Pre-Kindergarten Goldiebacks!
We are now entering the selection window for incoming kindergarten families to designate their preferred elementary schools. The Newburgh Enlarged City School District currently has seven elementary schools and two K-8 schools. Additional information about the schools and their various programs can be found on our NECSD website, newburghschools.org.
Selection Tours:
Selection Tours took place in December as an opportunity to visit NECSD elementary schools, learn about programs for each building, and meet with faculty and staff.
Current Pre-kindergarten Students
This year for students currently attending pre-kindergarten at one of our school based programs or one of our community based programs the school preference survey will be completed utilizing our Parent Portal from January 5, 2026 through April 30, 2026.
Important things to note:
- Once preferences are submitted all students are entered into a school selection process.
- Once preferences are submitted, we are unable to make changes.
- All efforts are made to ensure your child is assigned to one of your preferred elementary schools. There is no guarantee that your child will be assigned to your first preference.
- Results will be communicated mid-July 2026.
CURRENT PreK/PS student with Activated Parent Portal Account:
- Log in to your Parent Portal
- Go to Message Center
- Select Survey Option
- Fill out all areas of the survey
CURRENT PreK/PS student without an Activated Parent Portal Account:
- Activate your Parent Portal account using your personalized key. Personalized keys were sent to all Pre-K/PS families at the end of December.
- Once you activate your Parent Portal Account, follow the steps below to complete your Selections:
- Log in to your Parent Portal
- Go to Message Center
- Select Survey Option
- Fill out all areas of the survey
If you have difficulty accessing your Parent Portal and/or need a password reset, you may send an email to newburghportal@necsd.net for assistance. Tutorial videos are available, visit NewburghSchools.org/Registration and select the tab that best fits your needs.
NEW Student to the district (A student who is not currently attending an NECSD pre-kindergarten program)
Register your child by visiting NewburghSchools.org/Registration and follow the directions that best fit your needs. Tutorial videos are available.
