The 9th Annual Heritage 5K “All Gravy”
Over 200 runners and walkers toed the line for the 9th Annual Heritage 5K Turkey Trot this past Saturday, November 22nd. Decked out in their 5K long sleeved Turkey Trot t-shirts, runners made their way down Union Avenue to Temple Hill Academy cheered on by dozens of volunteers and the New Windsor Police Department the entire way.
There were apple pies for the winners (baked by Mrs. Demitrius’s Home and Career Skills classes), medals to the top 75 finishers, and trophies for the individual champions.
“It was by far our biggest turnout”, said race director and Heritage Social Studies teacher Chris Marino. “It gets bigger and bigger every year. I’m always a little nervous about the weather, but it held out just enough for us today that it made running conditions perfect. It was a great time, our PTO does a great job”.
And speaking of great times, some of those runners put up some impressive performances. Newburgh Freshman Cooper Schmidt won the overall race with a time of 16:15, just seconds off the course record set by Brady Danyluk several years earlier. The top Heritage student time was completed by 7th grader Hudson Layne in 18:41.
Next year will be the 10th Heritage 5K and plans are already in the works to make it the most special one yet.
