NYSED Assistant Commissioner for Bilingual Education & World Languages Visits Gardnertown Leadership Academy
Elisa Alvarez, Associate Commissioner of Bilingual Education & World Languages from the New York State Education Department visited our school district in February. During the visit, she met with central office administration, including the supt. and the executive team. Along with her associate, Austin Nojaim, she visited South Middle School and Gardnertown Leadership Academy and engaged in conversations with district and building leadership.
Below are some lines from her followed up letter:
"I would like to recognize the continued dedicated efforts of Dr. Chastity Martinez-Morales, and principals, Mr. Roderick Phoenix and Mr. Danny Dottin. Their commitment to excellence in bilingual education is evident, and we acknowledge their contributions to the successes and sustainability of the programs seeking to positively impact our English language learners in your school district. Additionally, I acknowledge the inclusivity you so graciously demonstrated in having all stakeholders for all student populations represented in your cabinet. I commend you for having English as a New Language/Bilingual Education Lead Teachers in some of your buildings to further support our educators
and build capacity in our teams. My team and I are interested in learning more about how this initiative supports instruction, and social-emotional learning for our students at the secondary level. In hopes to continue our ongoing collaboration, I am looking forward to working with you and your team."
