Passing of a Student | Jett James Diaz
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Jett Diaz. Jett was a student at Newburgh Free Academy and an avid baseball fan. Last year, our community came out in droves to celebrate and support Jett as he battled cancer, during the Jog for Jett 5K event. Over the summer, Jett was signed to the New York Mets, fulfilling a dream for Jett to go from Little League to the Major Leagues. The obituary for Jett James Diaz can be found by clicking this link.
Jett's family is asking to honor Jett's life and love of the game by wearing a jersey to school on Thursday, December 22nd.
Grief can impact people differently and may not be immediate, but can manifest over time. Support services are available for any students struggling with the loss of their friend, teammate, and classmate. Students and/or families should reach out to a school counselor, social worker, or school psychologist in your building. Contact information can be found by clicking this link.
Jett’s wake will be held on Thursday, December 22nd at Goodwill Church in Montgomery, NY. Hours of visitation are from 3-7pm with a funeral service to follow. The burial is private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Newburgh Knights (4 Miriam Way Newburgh NY 12550 | 914-419-1150). All donations received will fund improvement projects at the New Windsor Little League complex where Jett grew up and developed his love and passion for the game of baseball.
