NFA Main Natatorium: Home of the Empire Summer Swimming Program

The Empire Swimming program is split into three levels, Competitive, Intermediate and Learn to Swim:

Competitive (includes several varsity Swimming athletes respectively). The scholar athletes have been doing traditional competitive swim practices to stay in shape during the off-season and prior to their high school seasons. Also, there are some students in this group  who are preparing to try out for the respective school teams in the upcoming year.
The Intermediate program works on refining techniques to become more proficient swimmers. This group knew how to swim but have worked to get stronger and become better in the water. They have worked on drills to make their swimming more efficient and easier for possible competition levels.
The third group is a “Learn to Swim” program. Most of the scholars participating in this particular program began as less-skilled swimmers who could not swim in deep water. They participate in drills to get themselves "deep water ready" and at a level where they would no longer be in danger in/around water. Several of these scholars have progressed to pass a deep water test this summer. Their overall progress has been quite impressive.
Collectively, all three groups have made huge strides and the coaches Emily Russo, Matt Lorlano, Mary Sinnott and Zachary Williams all agree the students should be commended for their progress.
With the City of Newburgh pool currently out of order, the NFA Natatorium is the only public pool facility available to a majority or our scholars. This program serves as the only access to a pool for many NECSD students involved and has made the experience tremendously rewarding.
The Newburgh Swimming program has a long and proud history in the area. From State champions, to Section IX record holders and dozens of Section IX team titles, this program has greatly added to the fabric of Newburgh Swimming and its success will be felt for years to come.
It is the hope of all parties involved that this is only the beginning for Empire Swimming. We hope the program will continue to grow and provide a fun and important service for our school community.
