Dear NFA Main Campus students, families, faculty, and staff,

I’m writing to provide a second update to the messages you should have received last night. We understand these scenarios are disturbing and frightening for our entire school and extended community. These feelings are completely normal for people of all ages to experience. Please know that you are not alone in feeling upset. 

We are doing our best to provide transparency without jeopardizing the integrity of the ongoing investigations. The threats received this week are believed to be unrelated to each other, but each of the investigations are ongoing. The Snapchat post received last night was non-specific, however, it mentioned that it was in response to an altercation that happened recently. The decision to open all schools was made in collaboration with local law enforcement and the status of the investigation at the time. 

The district has been working with multiple levels of law enforcement to assist in investigating and supporting our schools at this time. These agencies include the City of Newburgh Police Department, Town of New Windsor Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Troopers, Town of Newburgh Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The district is providing necessary information to assist to help identify and locate the individual(s) who are responsible for these threats.

We are extremely thankful to our students and families who continue to alert our building leaders to concerns they have seen, allowing us to react quickly. The identity of students who share their concerns with building principals will remain confidential. The collaboration we have received from our students and families also reiterates that these disruptions are being caused by very few people and a majority of our students are looking forward to returning to their regularly scheduled day and traditional high school experience - that they deserve to have.  

If a student has questions or concerns, they should speak with a building principal or assistant principal, school counselor, social worker, school psychologist, or other adult that they trust.

Estimados estudiantes, familias, profesores y personal del campus principal de NFA,

Le escribo para brindarle una segunda actualización de los mensajes que debería haber recibido anoche. Entendemos que estos escenarios son perturbadores y aterradores para toda nuestra escuela y comunidad extendida. Estos sentimientos son completamente normales para personas de todas las edades. Por favor, sepa que no es el único que se siente molesto.

Estamos haciendo todo lo posible para proporcionar transparencia sin poner en peligro la integridad de las investigaciones en curso. Se cree que las amenazas recibidas esta semana no están relacionadas entre sí, pero cada una de las investigaciones está en curso. La colaboración que hemos recibido de nuestros estudiantes y familias también reitera que estas interrupciones están siendo causadas por muy pocas personas y la mayoría de nuestros estudiantes esperan regresar a su horario regular y a la experiencia tradicional de la escuela secundaria, que merecen tener.

Si un estudiante tiene preguntas o inquietudes, debe hablar con el director o subdirector del edificio, el consejero escolar, el trabajador social, el psicólogo escolar u otro adulto en quien confíe.
