Letter from NECSD Superintendent, Dr. Roberto Padilla Regarding Masks

Dear Parent/Guardians & Scholars,

The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) updated its guidance for schools late Monday night. This update aligns with the newest recommendations of the CDC. In anticipation of this updated guidance, we surveyed our NECSD community. Thank you to everyone who completed the survey regarding wearing masks. 75% of the responses we received indicated that the district should follow the updated guidance from the New York State Department of Health. 

Therefore, effective today, Wednesday, June 9th, the Newburgh Enlarged City School District will no longer require face masks to be worn outdoors while on school grounds, including outdoor sporting events. Social distancing and mask wearing indoors is still required. Please be aware that no student, teacher, staff, administrator, or visitor will be prevented from wearing an acceptable mask voluntarily on school grounds.  

We are thankful for your patience and continued partnership as we continue to navigate changes throughout the school year.

El Departamento de Salud del Estado de Nueva York (NYSDOH) actualizó su guía para las escuelas el lunes por la noche. Esta actualización se alinea con las recomendaciones más recientes de los CDC. Anticipándonos a esta guía actualizada, encuestamos a nuestra comunidad NECSD. Gracias a todos los que completaron la encuesta sobre el uso de máscaras. El 75% de las respuestas que recibimos indicaron que el distrito debería seguir la guía actualizada del Departamento de Salud del Estado de Nueva York.

Por lo tanto, a partir de hoy, miércoles 9 de junio, el Distrito Escolar Ampliado de la Ciudad de Newburgh ya no requerirá que se usen máscaras faciales al aire libre en los terrenos de la escuela, incluidos los eventos deportivos al aire libre. Todavía se requiere el distanciamiento social y el uso de máscaras en interiores. Tenga en cuenta que a ningún estudiante, maestro, personal, administrador o visitante se le impedirá usar voluntariamente una máscara aceptable en los terrenos de la escuela.
