New York State Seeks Feedback
On behalf of the New York State Education Department:
New York State was recently awarded $8.99 billion in federal funds through the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) fund. Under this program, states are required to develop a plan that outlines the work occurring in our state to support schools in safely reopening and sustaining safe operations while meeting the academic, social, emotional and mental health needs of all students, particularly those at-risk.Building upon the extensive public engagement and consultations conducted throughout the pandemic, and which are ongoing, NYSED is in the process of drafting this plan and is seeking public input from all stakeholders around our state’s key priorities for this work through a ThoughtExchange platform. This public engagement tool will close by May 24, 2021. Any responses received by that date will be reflected in NYSED’s final ARP ESSER plan and are focused around this core question:
As we prepare for the next school year in New York, what are the most important academic, social emotional, and/or mental health supports for schools to provide to serve all students (i.e., general education students, students with disabilities, English language learners, and others)?
