Regents Examination Exemption Declination Form

You may decline one or more of the exemptions that your child is eligible for, by completing and returning the enclosed form by regular mail, emailing it or emailing your decision to decline each exemption to the attention of your child's guidance counselor not later than June 19, 2020. Please be advised that if you decline an exemption(s), your child will not be eligible to graduate until he/she meets all graduation assessment requirements, including the requirements that were eligible for the declined exemption(s). Once submitted, your decision to decline one or more exemptions will be irrevocable and your son/daughter will remain eligible to receive a free appropriate public education until the end of the school year in which the child attains age 21 or until he or she earns a diploma, whichever occurs first. 

For students with disabilities who have an Individualized Education Program (“IEP”) or other documentation in which the District recommended or planned for the Student’s return to school for the 2020-21 school year, the District will not confer a diploma based upon the aforementioned assessment exemptions until and unless you confirm in writing that you consent to such exemptions and to your student receiving a diploma. The District will hold the diplomas of such students until parents confirm in writing that they agree with the District’s
decision to grant the exemption(s) and confer the diploma or credential. Until such permission is received, the student will remain enrolled and is eligible to return to his/her educational program for the 202021 school year.

Except as otherwise explained herein, if your child is eligible to graduate with exemptions and you do not decline one or more of these prior to June 19, 2020, your son/daughter will be conferred their diploma or graduation credential on June 19, 2020.
