What began as a kind invitation from Little Friends Learning Loft blossomed into a school-wide moment of learning, reflection, and shared action as students explored Ruby’s story through books, videos, photographs, songs and thoughtful discussion.

The Newburgh Gorhams were a premier semi-professional Black baseball team that called Newburgh, specifically "Benkard Heights," home during the era of the Negro Leagues.

This wasn't just about reading books; it was about teamwork. By working together, the students were able to share ideas, help each other find facts, and learn from one another's perspectives.

History isn’t just something we find in textbooks; it is a living, breathing narrative that we shape every single day. As we reflect on our shared past, we must remember that Black history is American history.
