Middle School Counselors Visit New Windsor School 5th Graders
New Windsor School recently welcomed a team of middle school counselors who visited our campus to support our fifth graders as they prepare for the transition to middle school. We were pleased to host Ms. Lashawn Martinez (SMS), Ms. Jessica Petruolo (THA), and Ms. Krystle Arcelay (MHA), who spent meaningful time engaging with our students.
During the visit, the counselors spoke with students about what to expect in middle school, including academic expectations, daily schedules, extracurricular opportunities, and increased independence. They also addressed the social-emotional aspects of the transition, offering guidance on building positive relationships, staying organized, advocating for oneself, and knowing when to seek support.
The experience was filled with smiles, laughter, and thoughtful conversations. Our fifth graders were eager to ask questions and learn more about middle school life—from new classes and clubs to making new friends. The counselors took time to get to know the students and praised them for their curiosity, kindness, and enthusiasm.
Students were encouraged to continue working hard, supporting one another, and approaching the next chapter of their educational journey with confidence. The visit helped ease nerves, spark excitement, and reinforce the message that our fifth graders are well prepared for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
We are grateful to our middle school colleagues for their partnership and commitment to ensuring a smooth, student-centered transition. Their visit was an invaluable experience for our students and a meaningful step in preparing them for continued success.
