NFA Students Learn Kayaking and Water Safety
Students in Mrs Young's Aquatics classes learned about boating safety and how to paddle a kayak during class today. As their skills progress, and trepidation subsides, we will attempt to paddle through some "rough water." For the first lesson, students put on their own life jackets, took turns safely getting into the kayak, paddling around the pool and exiting the kayak.
Learning boat safety and swimming is an important life skill - especially in the area in which we live. Each year more than 900 children ages 0-19 die in unintentional drownings. For kids age 5-19, it is the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury deaths. Aquatics classes at NFA Main focus on aquatic safety, swimming strokes, diving, swimming for fitness and our latest addition - boating safety.
