NFA MARATHON PROJECT KEEPS STUDENTS ON THE RIGHT TRACK
Earlier this year, the Newburgh Free Academy Marathon Project participated in a half marathon in Hartford, Connecticut. NFA is now in its fourth year with the project and the group meets several times a week to practice.

TEACHERS OBTAIN EQUIPMENT THROUGH FUEL UP TO PLAY 60 GRANT
Meadow Hill School Physical Education teachers Scott Seabury, Kristen Gunsch, Danielle Desarro and Elissa Kenney, along with School Nurse Teacher Denise Ribble, received bags of fitness and sports equipment. Ribble helped the teachers obtain the equipment using funding from the school’s Fuel Up To Play 60 grant.

NECSD ENERGY INITIATIVE RECOGNIZED FOR EXCEPTIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION
At the District's BOE meeting held on November 27, 2012, Energy Conservation Administrator Roger Ramjug provided an update of the Energy Education program’s success. His presentation provided results that since July of 2009, the NECSD has reduced their energy consumption by twenty-two percent.

NFA BLOOD DRIVE - THURSDAY DECEMBER 13TH
Newburgh Free Academy will be holding a blood drive on Thursday, December 13, 2012 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Girls’ Gym. Due to Hurricane Sandy, the region’s blood supply is very low and it is critical that the supply be replenished. Each donation saves three lives. Donors should eat a healthy breakfast prior to donating.

GARDNERTOWN STUDENTS REFLECT ON HURRICANE SANDY EXPERIENCE

AFLAC’S NEW FLEX FORMS FOR 2012-2013 SCHOOL YEAR
The new Flex Plan year begins on October 1st, 2012. The District’s new Flex Plan carrier will be Aflac. Those who were participants in the Flex Plan under the Preferred Group will still have until December 31, 2012 to submit Flex claims incurred prior to September 30, 2012, directly to the Preferred Group.

VAILS GATE SCHOOL STUDENTS EXPLORE THE MOHONK PRESERVE
Third grade classes from Vails Gate High Tech Magnet School went to Mohonk Preserve in New Paltz, New York recently thanks to a combination of grants. Teacher Janet De Stefano wrote and was awarded a $700 Target Educational Grant as well as a $650 grant she received from Teaching the Hudson Valley.

NFA'S EMPTY BOWLS RAISES MONEY FOR THE FOOD BANK OF THE HUDSON VALLEY

SCHOOLS RECEIVE FUEL UP TO PLAY 60 GRANTS
Recently, the District’s Fostertown ETC Magnet School and South Middle School were each the recipient of a $2,000 Fuel Up to Play 60 grant. This year Meadow Hill School has also been the recipient of two Fueld Up to Play grants. Fuel Up to Play 60 is a national initiative aimed to fight childhood obesity by teaching kids the value in taking control of their own health.

NUTCRACKER BY NFA DANCE DEPARTMENT

District officials, along with members of various NECSD committees, came together on Thurs., September 1, 2011 for the Annual Summer Constriction Bus Tour. The tour, led by Terry Damon of Armlin, Damon & McMordie, the company hired to manage the improvement plan, visited schools within the NECSD that received renovations.
