NFA West Hosts Group for Girls

Each week, several female students at Newburgh Free Academy, West Campus attend a girls group. Topics range from social issues to resolving conflict. This week, Ms. Meghan Mausteller from Safe Homes of Orange County spoke with the group about boundaries, feelings, and trust in relationships.

Coordinated by Ms. Carollee Hamlin, social worker at Newburgh Free Academy, West campus, developed the group for the purpose of developing self-esteem and confidence among members of the group. Several different topics will be discussed each week throughout the remainder of the year. Different speakers will be brought in some weeks, while other weeks, the group will be facilitated by Ms. Hamlin. Future topics will include flirting vs. harassment, teen dating and violence, social issues, healthy relationships, resolving conflict, healthy female images – all topics are tied to the educational goals of the members of the group.
