NECSD Hosts Annual Family Reading Day
The Newburgh Enlarged City School District (NECSD) recently celebrated its annual Family Reading Day, a vibrant community event dedicated to fostering a lifelong love of literacy. Held in partnership with the Newburgh Free Library, the event serves as a cornerstone of the district’s "Goldback Standard" of excellence.
the Newburgh Free Library was transformed into a hub of imagination and discovery for the annual NECSD Family Reading Day. On a rainy Saturday, the building was filled with the sounds of storytelling, laughter, and the turning of pages as families from across the district gathered to celebrate the power of books.
Fun for All Ages
The event offered a wide array of literacy-inspired activities designed to engage everyone from Pre-K "scholars" to high school seniors. Highlights included:
Interactive Storytelling: Guest readers and educators brought popular children's books to life.
Community Resources: Local organizations provided information on literacy programs and educational support for families.
A Shared Journey: The theme emphasized that reading isn't just a solo academic task but a community adventure that can happen anywhere—from the quiet of a bedroom to the sidelines of a sibling's soccer game.
Music and Performances: The NECSD Empire Drumline and the NFA Madrigals performed for audiences, highlighting their talents and showcasing programs that students can participate in while enrolled in our schools.
Face Painting and Balloon art: Children were lined up for face painting and balloon art, bringing their imaginations to different creative forms and accompanying reading with the joy of these fun-filled activities.
Community Engagement: Our Family and Community Engagement team, Newburgh Free Library staff, New Windsor School, GAMS Pre-K, Temple Hill Academy, Vails STEAM Academy, and Horizons on the Hudson school teachers and PTO members, NFA AF-JROTC members, My Brother's Keepers Fellows, Food Services, Buildings and Grounds, Mount St. Mary's College and Head Start of Eastern Orange County, all joined together to make this a memorable and successful event that welcomed our community.
