The countdown to our Google Transition has begun

 

 

 

What the Transition Means for Students

Google Docs
Students will have access to the full suite of Google Doc tools. The tools align with Microsoft Office programs and can open Microsoft Office files (docx, xlsx, pptx, etc).

Chromebooks for Scholars
Similar to the Digital Convergence for teachers, the district will be purchasing a Chromebook for each scholar in grades 3 through 10 to be available in the fall.  Initially, the Chromebooks will remain in school and be charged and secured in a locked cabinet or cart when not in use. In the future, students may elect to take Chromebooks home at the district’s discretion.
During the summer, the Division of Technology will continue work with each building principal to assist with the roll out plan for their building and strategies for family workshops.

What the Transition Means for Staff/Faculty

New Email Address for Staff Members
As part of the district’s move to Gmail (July 1, 2018), the Division of Information and Technology is taking the opportunity to standardize the district’s email addresses.  Effective July 1, 2018, ALL email addresses will be in the format of first initial and last name.  

 

G-Suite Professional Development
In support of the formal roll-out of G Suite for Education and Google Classroom, the district will be offering the opportunity for all teachers to attend one two-hour formal professional development workshops over the summer 2018, fall 2018 and spring 2019. These workshops will be taught by Instructional Technology Facilitators/Teachers. Each session will focus on strategies for using G Suite essentials, Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Classroom.  On-line training resources will also be available. Staff members can register for the G Suite workshops through My Learning Plan beginning June 18th, 2018. www.mylearningplan.comParticipants should bring their laptops.
