South Middle School Scholars Create Colors and Develop Creative Descriptions for Benjamin Moore
Students in Ms. Angela Cacace’s 6th grade class invented and named their own color. Then students wrote creative descriptions to describe their color creation. The students examined several examples of paint descriptions, analyzed the language being used with focus on tone, imagery, and personification within the short pieces, and then modeled their own writing based on those samples. Each student brainstormed by writing adjectives, similes and metaphors, tone, mood, and moments in preparation for writing their own color descriptions.
Once finished, the students sent their swatches to Benjamin Moore to be judged. Here is the video of what Benjamin Moore sent back to the students, and this one of the winner, Akhir McNeil, when he found out he won their contest.
Ms. Cacace also gave out her own awards. Students received awards for both color creation and description of their designs. Students received art supplies as prizes from Ms. Cacace.
Every student received a hat and thumb drive as prizes for participating.
