Fifth Grade Students at HOH Create Sculptures in Collaboration with Storm King Arts Center
Students in the fifth grade at Horizons on the Hudson Magnet School worked with Trish Halverson, an art educator with Storm King Arts Center, recently to create sculptures in response to environmental issues. The project with Storm King, one of the school’s community partners, started with a visit in the fall to a temporary exhibit titled: Indicators: Artists Respond to Climate Change. Each fifth grade class selected two sculptures to study in depth, both in terms of the artist’s intention and the connection to the environment. Students then conducted research into the issues represented in the artwork in preparation for constructing their own sculptures. The works will be shared with the fourth grade classes in an exhibit format at a later date.
