Horizons-on-the-Hudson Magnet School

Horizons-on-the-Hudson 4th Grade Students participate in "The Native Americans of New York State."

A 45-50 minute concert program using songs, instruments, audience participation and humor to excite 4th grade students in their studies of the Haudenosaunee people (Iroquois Indians).

With his guitar and some traditional Haudenosaunee instruments, Dave Ruch leads students on a fun-filled musical journey into New York's history. Students become active participants in their own learning as they sing along (in English and Iroquois!), answer questions, act out songs, laugh, move, wonder and inquire.

Topics covered include the Iroquois' use of their surroundings to meet their basic needs for food, clothing and shelter, and the forced relocation to the reservations.

Students from Ms. Khoury's and Mr. Desiderio's, Ms. St. Clair's, Ms. McGuire's, Ms. Amaro's and Ms. Yonnone's class had the good fortune of attending.
