Ms. DiCola and Mrs. Wennerberg's 1st grade classes have been practicing the profile trait of “Open Mindedness” both inside and outside the classroom by "opening our minds like tiny boxes" to new experiences, people, food, and ideas. One of the stories they’ve read and enjoyed most was called "I Will Never Not Eat a Tomato." It was about a picky eater and not wanting to try new foods. Students discussed things they were afraid to do but kept an Open-Mind and tried it anyway!  

During Garden time, (every other Tuesday), they have been Open-minded to learning about the plants and animals. Mr. Sam, from Hudson Valley Seed, had the students try peppers. Many students kept an open-mind even if they thought they wouldn’t like them. Other students were open-minded about searching for insects in the garden soil, learning about their benefits in the garden. These are just a few examples of Ms. DiCola and Mrs. Wennerberg's 1st grader's learning the trait of being Open-minded.
