THA Families: December Newsletter

December Tiger News

Season’s Greetings

It is hard to believe that it is December already. The Christmas season is here and with it comes the opportunity to reflect on what has been accomplished this year as well as spending quality time with family and friends which truly makes this time of year even more special.

May the peace that resounds during this season be with you and your family during this holiday season and always. We wish you and your family a restful winter recess, a blessed Christmas, and a very Happy New Year.

Support Learning during the Winter Break

  • As a parent, you can help and learn more by talking with your child about what he/she is learning in school. Take advantage of the time you will spend together during the break and have fun with activities that will promote thinking and problem solving.
  • Select a book to read together during the break. Talk about what is happening in the story and make predictions about what may happen next. Use evidence from the text to support your predictions.
  • Use the holiday season to expose your child to new vocabulary. You can do this by sharing stories about holiday traditions and about your childhood experiences.
  • Build math fluencies by practicing addition and multiplication facts. There are many ways to have fun while working with math activities: use a timer to time each other, play matching games, dominoes, cards, etc. Many board games provide opportunities to  think mathematically.

From the Health Office

Flu season is upon us! Infants and young children are at greater risk for getting ill from the flu. Vaccinating against the flu is recommended for all children from 6 months and older.  Some sign and symptoms of the flu are high fever, feeling tired, headache, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose and sore muscles.  Some people may also experience stomach problems and diarrhea. Call your child's health care provider if they have any of these symptoms.  Children should stay home until they have no fever without the use of fever controlled medicines and they feel well for 24 hours. Any questions feel free to contact the health office.
