News From the IT Department

We have been busy working with Computer Systems Specialists to identify tasks and map out an implementation calendar for the next few months as we get ready for the switch over to the new system. You can view the high level implementation plan here.

Frequently Asked Questions about Infinite Campus:

Why is the District moving to Infinite Campus?
  1. The size of our District and the increasing demand for student data at all levels has outgrown our current student system.
  2. The way data is stored and reported in Tenex does not match NYS reporting requirements.
  3. Users have, for quite some time, requested a user friendly web based student and grading system that uses a windows interface for navigation and printing.
  4. Of the systems reviewed, Infinite Campus was selected on its ability to deliver the required user interface and support model most economically.
  5. Infinite Campus will provide direct teacher access to the student data system.
What type of training opportunities will be available to District Staff and when will training begin?
A schedule of end user training is being developed and will be posted here as it is finalized. (Schedule of End User Training) Everyone who will be using the new student system will have an opportunity to be trained prior to the end of January. We will post as many details about training as we can during the next few weeks. On line training guides will also be posted here as they become available.

Will I be able to import my class assignments or other information from Easy Grade Pro or Progressbook into Infinite Campus?  *NEW*
Each vendor’s grade book has a unique algorithm for setup and grading calculations. Infinite Campus has an integrated grade book that uses the same set up and final grade calculation as the student information system. To insure data integrity, grade book information from other systems cannot be imported.

What type of support will be available as we move into the new system?
Our it staff will be working directly with buildings to help smooth the transition to the new system and we will be working directly with trainers from Infinite Campus to deliver training aimed at the different levels of users for the new system.

When will we start using the new system?
Training will begin in the next month or so for District Staff. Technology staff will begin training the week of 9/21. The technology staff will also be working with the Infinite Campus implementation team to begin to migrate data from Tenex into Infinite Campus following an implementation timeline that has been laid out. Through training the District Staff will begin to see and use Infinite Campus well before the anticipated go live date of February 1, 2010.

What are some of the advantage of Infinite Campus vs Tenex?
There are many improvements that Infinite Campus brings to the table over Tenex, here are a few:
  1. Ad Hoc reporting that allows users to create their own reports that are not included in the core reports.
  2. Students are grouped by households which makes finding siblings easy.
  3. Integrates external systems (Nutrikids, Transfinder, IEP Direct etc) more seamlessly than Tenex with built in interfaces.
  4. Grade book is integrated.
  5. Web based interface can be accessed from anywhere.
As training begins the advantages of Infinite Campus vs Tenex will be readily seen.

How will I find out if I will be trained in Infinite Campus?
Access and training for the new student system will be coordinated with your building administrator and/or supervisor. We are working on the training schedules and will post them here as dates and locations are confirmed.

Is the integrated gradebook Easy Grade Pro 4.0 ?
Infinite Campus is a student information system. As part of this system there is a module that provides a teacher interface to student information, a teacher’s grade book, and classroom attendance.
Training will be scheduled for all teachers to use the program for entering quarterly grades and classroom attendance.
Teachers who are already using a third party grade book such as Easy Grade Pro or who are interested in using one, will have an additional opportunity for training in the grade book portion of the teacher's module in Inifinite Campus.

Will Infinite Campus be connected to NYLearns?
Infinite Campus will replace Tenex as the District’s student information system. There are no immediate plans to connect Infinite Campus to NYLearns. They are functionally and technically two different systems.
