WHAT IS STRATEGIC PLANNING?

Strategic planning is something most district do on a regular basis. It is an amazing opportunity for a district to reflect and look forward. This website will showcase our preliminary planning work. An additional website will be created once the final plan is created. This website will showcase the work done in development of the final plan. During the preliinary strategic planning sessions, the main questions we ask ourselves during this process are:

How are things going in our district right now?
Where do we want to be as a district in three to five years?
How can we best focus our efforts and work together to get there?
How can we continue to grow as a responsive organization?

OUR PLANNING APPROACH?

Pre-Work & Plan
Sept 2019 - Dec 2019
Design
Jan 2020 - Mar 2020
Launch
July 2020

Pre-Work & Plan: Create draft one of our Newburgh Journey of a Graduate (JOG). Determine how our teams will work together and how to engage stakeholder groups (students, Board of Education, families, etc.).
Design: Build foundational understanding of responsive strategic planning. Host advisory groups and other engagement events to identify Newburgh’s opportunities for improvement and focus areas.
Launch: Take steps to launch initiatives for phase 1 and build accountability systems to monitor implementation of the plan
Implementation & Monitor: Kick off in Aug and implement initiatives for phase 1 and communicate progress during year 1

STRATEGIC PLANNING ROADMAP

Our roadmap allows us to understand each phase of the planning process and what key products we will have created at the end of each phase.

Roadmap
Purpose Timeline Key Products
PHASE: PRE-WORK & PLAN
First, we understand existing strategic planning beliefs and processes to align on goals, roles, and structure. We also consider how the Journey of a Graduate (JOG) might anchor our strategic plan and which teams we need to put into place to design, advise, and execute on the plan. Oct 2019 - Dec 2019
  • Journey of a Graduate Version 1
  • Stakeholder Engagement Plan
  • Responsive Planning Structure for Project Team
PHASE: DESIGN
Our goal in this phase is to continue engaging with stakeholder groups including Newburgh students, families, staff, and the larger community to assess strengths and capabilities while identifying opportunities for growth. We also continue to iterate on the JOG and begin building our foundational themes for the new strategic plan. Jan 2020 - Feb 2020
  • Journey of a Graduate - Final Version
  • Continued stakeholder input and feedback
PHASE: LAUNCH
The majority of our work will be spent designing, iterating and launching the plan. In this phase, we finalize the strategic planning pillars or themes, a vision for the plan, and a set of initiatives that prioritize what matters most to the Newburgh community. We also create a plan to communicate the plan both during and after the official launch. Mar 2020 - July 2020
  • Initial Strategic Planning Themes/Pillars
  • Initiative prioritization
  • Sprint Cycle #1
PHASE: IMPLEMENTATION & MONITOR
Finally, we monitor progress on the plan so that we know when Newburgh is achieving its goals and when we need to pivot. July 2020 - Onward
  • Initiative One-Pagers
  • Final Board Presentation
  • Plan Governance Structure for Progress Monitoring
