“Caperucita Roja” Dazzles at West Street School

On Tues., May 5, Kindergarten through 3rd grade students from West Street School in Newburgh experienced “Caperucita Roja”-Little Red Riding Hood performed by Teatro Sea. The New York City based performers delivered an interactive show for students in both Spanish and English. This allowed the students to utilize what they have learned so far this year in their studies of both Spanish and English.

West Street School offers students and parents the dual language program. Dual language enables students to learn a second language while strengthening and maintaining a native language.

According to Principal Lillian Torres, “West Street School was buzzing with excitement! This bilingual performance was perfect for my students. The NYC performers from Teatro Sea were great!”

After hearing about the program from a parent who had taken their child to see the performance in the NYC Torres and the PTA were eager to have the performance for students. “Everyone was in agreement. This was something that West Street School students had to experience. In the end, through fundraisers and a very special friend of the WSS family we were able to have the performance at West Street School,” said Torres. In addition, the story had a different ending from the traditional story which made it all the more exciting for students.
