Tree Planting & Time Capsule at West Street School
The West Street Dual Language and Technology School came together on April 29th to plant a tree on Arbor Day and bury a time capsule. The tree was planted on the right side of the front of the school and the time capsule was planted under the West Street School sign. The WSS community will come back in 5 years to reopen the time capsule and revisit some wonderful memories experienced at West Street School from 2008-2011. West Street School representatives will plant an additional 3 trees, one at the Board of Education, one at SUNY Orange and one at Mount Saint Mary’s College.
The following letter was read to the student during the event:
This is the first of 4 trees the WSS will plant.
We have all learned about the parts of a tree.
The tree has roots, and strong roots are the foundation of the tree.
The WSS is your roots, your foundation for learning.
Trees need soil. The soil is your family and your WSS friends who help you grow.
Trees need water. So even though we have sadness about leaving the WSS, remember, even heaven cries tears of rain and gives our trees water.
Trees need sunlight. Your teachers at the WSS are like the sun, shining the light of learning on you. So when you have new teachers, remember, they, too, will love you – they want you to grow and learn.
You are the branches, the leaves, the flowers and the fruits of the trees. When you grow and learn you will blossom and be part of the cycle of life.
We will plant three more trees – one at the Board of Education, one at SUNY Orange and one at Mount Saint Mary’s College. These trees will show the path you walk from your foundation at WSS, to your graduation from high school, to college and into the future.
