Meet the Counselor

Hello! My name is Ms. Juana Rivera and I am the School Counselor at Temple Hill Academy.

Elementary school years set the tone for developing the knowledge, and attitudes and skills necessary for the children to become health, competent and confident learners. Similarly, Middle School can be a difficult time for most students. It’s a time of personal exploration – a time to seek out one’s own identity, and physiologically a time of rapid growth. One of my goals is to create an environment where each and every student is able to find confidence in themselves and believe in their own competence as learners. Helping to create strong decision-making abilities is a high priority.

As a school counselor, my goal is to assist your child develop and grow socially, emotionally and academically. Some of the ways I do this is by providing classroom guidance sessions, peer mediation, conflict resolution and individual and group counseling.

Communication with parents and school staff regarding the student’s progress is on-going. Referring families to out of school agencies is a part of what I do as well. I also assist in facilitating parent teacher conferences. Most importantly, I am working diligently in getting to know all of your children.

I also serve on several of the school’s teams and committees such as the Response to Intervention (RTI), Support Services, Attendance and the Building 504 team. In addition, I am the co-advisor of The National Junior Honor Society for our 7th and 8th grade students.

Children need all the support and understanding that we can provide them. Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, the school counselor works as a team with the school staff, parents and the community to create a caring climate and atmosphere. By providing education, prevention, early identification and intervention, school counselors can help all children achieve academic success.

Helping your children reach their fullest potential, in a healthy, responsible, respectful, and caring way is my priority. If you have any questions or concerns about your child that you would like to discuss with me, I can be reached at (845)568-6480.

I wish you and your child a fantastic school year!
