NEW WAY TO EARN COLLEGE CREDIT - MARIST GREYSTONE PROGRAM

Getting Started at Greystone - The Greystone Program offers online college courses through Marist College to qualified juniors and seniors from member high schools. The high school student may take up to two courses a semester and gets full access to the Marist College library and eLearning environment. The student receives an official Marist College transcript and is in the course with traditional Marist students. The instructor for each course is a qualified Marist faculty member. Courses are either 10 or 15 weeks long and follow the Marist Academic calendar (http://www.marist.edu/academics/calendars.html), for fall, spring and summer sessions.
Courses are delivered totally online. Faculty members generally include a video clip introducing themselves to their students. Faculty members post regular office hours when they can be contacted online, by phone, or in-person. Assignments and quizzes are due each week and are submitted online. Participation in discussion forums are an important part of the student’s evaluation each semester. Students do not have to come to the Marist campus and text books can be ordered online. The tuition for each course is $399 due at registration. The deadline to register for fall 2013 is July 1st.
In order register, the student must be a junior or senior with at least a B average. The student must complete an application and get the approval of his guidance counselor and a parent.

FAMILY CONNECTION! WEBSITE

The Counseling & Guidance Department of Newburgh Free Academy is pleased to introduce Naviance Family Connection! Family Connection is a comprehensive website that can be used to help in making plans about high school, college, scholarships and careers. Family Connection is linked with Naviance, a service that we use in our district to track and analyze data about college and career plans, so it provides up-to-date information that's specific to our district. Please contact your School Counselor, who can provide you with your specific user name and password. Family Connection will allow families and students to:
  • Get involved in the planning and advising process- Build a resume, complete online surveys, manage timelines, task and deadlines assign by your counselor and yourself.
  • Stay Connected- Communicate with your counselor anytime, anywhere using the notes and email sections of the site.
  • Research colleges- Compare GPA, standardized test scores and college cost, size and other important information that helps you make your college choice.
  • Research Careers- Research hundreds of careers and career clusters, and take career assessments like the Do What You Are test.
  • Create plans for the future- Build course plans, create goals and to-dos, and complete tasks assigned to you by your counselor to better prepare you for your future college and career goals.
