NECSD Students Design Academy Field Archway
Students at Newburgh Free Academy recently completed a formal entrance to Newburgh Free Academy’s Academy field as part of an in school assignment through the NECSD’s Career and Technical Education Program. The new archway is visible from the South Street.
During the semester long project, students in the Welding Program and the Construction Career Academy united to create a blue print and vision for the archway in addition to designing a mock up of the initial design. The Newburgh Free Academy students poured footings, made columns, built and welded each letter and hinge and created each iron bar used in the gate. In addition, students worked to do masonry on the stone columns and capped the tops of each pillar. The final portion of the construction included painting the archway and gates.
