Temple Hill Students Merge Science and Art for Explosive Volcano Lesson

Temple Hill Academy fourth grade teacher, Jamie MacArthur, and elementary art teacher, Ann Marie Morales-Ear, teamed up to give students a hands-on scientific approach to chemistry and volcanoes. With Morales-Earís assistance, students created clay volcanoes and glazed them to resemble real volcanoes.

Back in their classroom, MacArthurís students individually Ďeruptedí their volcanoes and enjoyed witnessing the chemical reaction that took place between baking soda, food coloring and vinegar. With the creation of their clay volcanoes, the students have a permanent reminder of the earth science and chemistry properties they learned within their classroom.
