NECSD Hosts Parent University 2011


Event Offered Workshops and Information Sessions for Parents

     On a recent Saturday, the Newburgh Enlarged City School District hosted Parent University 2011 at SUNY Orange Kaplan Hall. The event offered parents and guardians an opportunity to meet with professionals in the field of education to discuss timely topics in the educational system while gaining a better understanding of their student’s educational needs and help their child down the path to success. Each parent selected two workshops of their choice.

     The following workshops were offered to parents during the event: School Report Cards: What Do They Mean, How Children Learn, What's Going on at the Newburgh Free Library?, Algebra: It's Not So Scary!, Top Ten Teacher Tips to Student Success, Autism/ADD, Advocating for Your Special Needs Child, Steps in the Special Education Process, Understanding Your Child's Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) and Navigating the NECSD.

     Partners for the event included: Best Resource Center, Inc., Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh, City of Newburgh 21st Century Program, City of Newburgh Youth Bureau and Recreation Department, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Newburgh Performing Arts Academy, SUNY TEAM Newburgh, SUNY Orange Center for Youth Development and Liberty Partnerships Program.
