Horizons-on-the-Hudson Hosts Breakfast with the Principal

Recently, in recognition of Parent Involvement Month, the Newburgh Enlarged City School District’s Horizons-on-the-Hudson Magnet School hosted the annual Breakfast with the Principal event. During the breakfast, Horizons Principal Lisa Buon gave a presentation to the nearly 200 families in attendance regarding the new Common Core Standards, which are being rolled out this school year throughout the state. The message was clear, that the bar regarding the new standards has risen and parent involvement will be crucial for the success of all students.

Additionally, Horizon’s International Baccalaureate Coordinator David Brown, presented a more in depth explanation of what the IB Primary Years Program entails. In addition to the Learner Profile Traits and IB Attitudes, he explained the Transdisciplinary Themes covered across the grade levels and the Transdisciplinary Skills and Key Concepts developed in all classrooms. Brown closed by encouraging all families to explore the IB website for further information.

According to organizers, the event was one of the best attended breakfasts in recent years. In addition to being informative and building a deeper sense of school community, all attendees were able to enjoy the new energy efficient windows in the HOH cafeteria, which now showcases a view of the Hudson River.
