Newburgh Free Academy, Main Campus Honors 2018 Student Sojourner Truth Award Recipients

11 students from Newburgh Free Academy, Main Campus received 2018 Sojourner Truth Awards from SUNY Orange. Of those, eight received the honor for citizenship and three received the honor for perseverance/effort.

For the past 28 years, Orange County Community College has honored Sojourner Truth by holding an awards ceremony in her name.  This ceremony recognizes the achievements of deserving Orange County youth who are traditionally under-represented in the college population.

The program itself is a celebration of youth, accomplishment, and culture.  The program was held on March 9th at SUNY Orange and students received their certificates and medals. Mr. Rodriguez, principal hosted the ceremony at Newburgh Free Academy, Main Campus and recognized the students as part of a smaller ceremony. Students were given certificates of recognition from Assemblyman James Skoufis’ District Office.
