WASHINGTONVILLE – The Newburgh Free Academy varsity football team traveled to Washingtonville last Friday to face a worthy opponent in the vastly improved Section 9 Wizards. Once again, the Goldbacks were led by Anthony Dubois who rushed for 85 yards on 14 carries, including a key first down run with the game in the balance. Uriah Clark scored on a 2 yard touchdown run, quarterback Mark Risio connected on a 9 yard touchdown pass to Mike Esposito, and Jeremy Stinson added a 30 yard field goal and two extra points to round out the scoring for the undefeated Goldbacks.

NEWBURGH – The Newburgh Free Academy swimmers opened the 2011 season hosting the twelve team Hudson Valley Classic. Junior Brittany Friese won three events to lead the Goldbacks. Friese set a meet record of 1:53.31 in the 200 freestyle, breezed to a 5:01.91 victory in the 500 freestyle, and then anchored the 400 freestyle relay to victory in 3:53.87. Joining Friese on the relay were Alexa Sager, Emily Hovey, and Bana Hadid. Hadid also took the 100 backstroke with a 1:00.88 clocking.

NEWBURGH – The Newburgh Free Academy opened the 2011 season with an impressive 21-0 shutout over Section 4 rival Binghamton on Friday night at Academy Field. Anthony Dubois scored two touchdowns and accumulated a combined 87 yards rushing and receiving to lead the Goldbacks. Aaron Johnson rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown while quarterback Mark Risio threw for 75 yards, completing 4 of 10 attempts.
